Reggie Walsh, The Box To Box Teenager

A Cobham midfielder handed senior football earlier than almost anyone in the club's long history.

Walsh plays with a confidence that senior football normally strips out of teenagers within a fortnight, taking the ball in central areas and looking forward immediately. He covers ground between both penalty areas, which is the profile Chelsea have historically produced and then sold before anybody outside the academy noticed. His goal threat from midfield is what separates him from the other young passers around him.

Being given a senior debut that early tells you what coaches think, though it guarantees nothing about the years that follow. Central midfield at Chelsea is the most crowded position in the squad by a distance. His development almost certainly requires a loan somewhere the football is physical and the results actually matter to people.
