Malo Gusto, The Full Back Who Never Stops

A French defender whose value sits in the sheer volume of running he produces on the right.

Gusto plays full back the way it was played before inverting became fashionable, which means getting outside the winger and reaching the byline as often as possible. The overlap is constant, and defenders who have already dealt with a winger cutting inside suddenly find another problem sprinting past them. That repetition is exhausting to defend against across ninety minutes.

Defensively he is aggressive, stepping into the winger early rather than dropping off and inviting the cross. It works when the timing is right and leaves a hole behind him when it is not, which is the trade every attacking full back makes. Watch whether he is still making the overlap in the closing stages, because that is when the running becomes genuinely decisive.
