Emmanuel Emegha, The Striker Who Punishes Transitions

A Dutch centre forward whose goals come from the chaos immediately after his team wins the ball.

Emegha is at his most dangerous in the seconds after possession changes hands, when a defence is stretched and nobody has decided who is picking him up. He combines size with a genuine turn of pace, which is a difficult mixture for centre halves who expect a big striker to be slow. In the air he is dominant, meaning a long ball forward is a viable plan rather than a surrender.

His temperament generates as much conversation as his football, which is what happens when a captain is unafraid of confrontation. Supporters who like a forward with an edge will enjoy him, and referees may enjoy him rather less. Whether that character becomes leadership or a liability tends to depend on how a dressing room chooses to receive it.
