Adrian Segečić, The Number Ten Portsmouth Needed

Played out of position on the wing, Segečić only became dangerous once Portsmouth trusted him through the middle.

Segečić spent much of his early Portsmouth career out on the right flank, a position that never suited a player built around tight central spaces. Moved inside as the number ten, he looked like a completely different player, finding pockets between the lines that wide players rarely occupy. A hat-trick scored almost entirely from central positions made the case for that role better than any team talk could.

With a rival attacker departed, Segečić now has a clear run at the central role he always seemed better suited to anyway. Interest from bigger clubs has followed his improved form, which raises the obvious question of how long Portsmouth get to retain him. For now the priority remains simple, keep him central and watch what a gifted, compact player can do there.
