There’s plenty behind Preston. What comes next?

You don’t have to look very far at Preston before somebody mentions the Invincibles, Sir Tom Finney or just how long football has been played at Deepdale. Fair enough too. There aren’t many clubs with that sort of history behind them.

But if you’re a North End fan now, you probably want a few new stories of your own.

Preston have come close to the same heights before. They were one game away from the Premier League under David Moyes, only for Bolton to beat them in the 2001 play-off final. More than two decades later, they’re still waiting for that mythical first Premier League season.

That’s what makes PNE interesting to us this year. There’s no shortage of history here. The question is whether this group can give fans something they’ll still be talking about years from now, or whether the wait will continue.
