George Gryba, The Striker Grassroots Football Built

A prolific grassroots goalscorer before joining a professional academy, he now holds the ball up for Preston's youth sides.

Gryba scored goals consistently in grassroots football before Preston's academy ever gave him a formal footballing education. That route shaped a striker with genuine natural instincts rather than one drilled entirely inside a professional environment from a young age. He holds the ball up well with defenders leaning on his back, buying time for support to arrive rather than trying to force something alone.

He looks just as comfortable finishing chances as he does creating room for others around the penalty area. The obvious question with any academy striker this early in his development is translation, since goals scored against boys his own age rarely predict how a player copes once senior defenders use genuine strength against him. Short loans out to non league football have already begun testing that.
