Liam Lindsay, The Centre Back Scotland Noticed Late

Years of quietly excellent defending in England eventually forced a senior Scotland call up that arrived far too late.

Lindsay's height and physical presence make him a genuine obstacle in the air, dealing with crosses and long balls the way the position is supposed to work. He first drew wider attention at Partick Thistle, where he was the only player outside Celtic and Aberdeen picked for that season's team of the year. He then helped build one of the meanest defences in the country during his time at Barnsley.

That early platform set the tone for a career built on stopping strikers rather than starting attacks himself. Scotland only handed him a senior call up once he was already well established in England, long after plenty inside the game expected it. Whether he still has room to add caps at this stage of his career is the honest question he now faces.
