Andrew Hughes, Preston's Quiet Long Serving Full Back

Hundreds of appearances for one club is rare in modern football, earned through consistency rather than one big moment.

Hughes built the foundation for his career at Newport County, where he was young player of the year and helped the club win an historic promotion after a long absence from the Football League. Peterborough United then gave him a taste of a higher level before Preston came calling. He simply never stopped being useful once he arrived, racking up appearance totals few players at the club can match.

He defends with a calm, unfussy style that rarely draws attention to itself, which is exactly the point.
