Andrija Vukčević, The Left Back Who Toured Europe

Six countries and counting across his career mean he arrives at Preston already tested against wildly different styles of football.

Vukčević broke through with his boyhood club in Montenegro before he had even turned pro elsewhere. He then set off on a career that reads like a footballing atlas, taking in Serbia, Belgium, Croatia, Mexico and Spain before Preston became his latest stop. That constant movement between leagues gave him an adaptability a left back who stayed put his whole career would struggle to match. Few defenders in the Championship have tested themselves against so many different styles.

His longest and most productive spell came in Croatia, where he became a genuine regular starter for several seasons. Montenegro still trust him enough to keep calling him up at senior level. The natural question with a defender who has changed country so often is whether he ever properly settles long enough to become the finished version of himself.
