Watford have done this all before...

Half a century ago, Elton John took over as chairman and brought in Graham Taylor a year later. Five years after that, Watford had gone from the bottom division to the top flight. That’s a ridiculous rise when you actually stop and think about it.

They even finished second in the First Division in 1983, so this is a club that knows what a proper climb up the table looks like.

Last season was nowhere near that glamorous. Watford finished 16th, which probably tells you why nobody should be getting carried away just yet. But that’s also what makes this year interesting. There’s a big old history behind them, and Hornets fans will want to see a bit more of that ambition back in team again.

No massive predictions from us. We’re just quite interested to see which way this one goes.
