Mamadou Doumbia, The Striker Built To Hold

A powerful young target man whose hat trick at an Under 17 World Cup announced a finisher behind the physical presence.

Doumbia leads the line the way a target man is supposed to, shielding the ball with his back to goal and waiting for support to arrive rather than forcing an early pass. His strength lets him hold off a defender in areas where a smaller striker would already have lost the ball, and teammates have talked about him in the same breath as far more famous target men because of how he combines that physical presence with genuine composure once the ball is at his feet.
