The Valley is fuller and louder than it has been in years, which counts for a great deal at this level, and the connection between the team and the crowd has been rebuilt along with everything else.

The football is built on organisation and a settled group rather than individual quality, and the club has resisted the urge to churn through head coaches every time a run of results goes badly. That patience is unusual in this division and supporters rate it highly. Where it gets tested is squad depth across 46 games, because a first eleven that is competitive can look very different once injuries and suspensions start to bite in December.
