Reece Burke, The Centre Back Trusted Young

Coaches called him an old head on young shoulders long before he became a well travelled Championship regular.

Burke has never been the flashiest defender on the pitch, which is partly why he has lasted so long across several clubs. Coaches picked him out early for his maturity, the sort of positioning and communication normally associated with a far more experienced player. That versatility across the back line, shifting from centre back to left back without the team losing shape, has kept him valuable to every manager he has worked under.

The question with a defender who has changed clubs this often is whether he ever properly settles. He might be destined to keep being the reliable option rather than the first name on the sheet.
