Amari'i Bell, The Full Back Who Attacks

A Jamaica international left back thrives most when he is allowed to push forward as a wing back.

Bell's game is built on athleticism, the ability to get up and down a flank repeatedly without losing the sharpness needed for a one on one duel late in a match. He has always defended those individual battles well, standing his ground rather than diving into a challenge and gambling on the outcome. When a manager trusts him further forward as part of a back three, his attacking instincts come out properly, adding another body to the wide areas.

The trade off with a full back who wants to attack is what happens behind him once he has committed forward, and Bell has had to work on his end product to justify that freedom. Crossing consistently rather than just getting into good areas took time to develop earlier in his career. How much licence Charlton give him going forward will shape how he is remembered.
