Kristoffer Ajer, The Defender Who Has Seen It All

Years of experience across two positions have made him one of the more trusted, senior voices in this squad.

Ajer has played long enough at this level that very little in a Premier League game surprises him anymore, reading danger early and organising the players around him rather than reacting late to a situation that has already gone wrong. He can play at centre back in a back four or shift out to right back without his positioning ever looking uncertain, which makes him a useful piece to build a defence around.

His physical advantage was obvious from childhood, and that early size still underpins the way he defends now, winning contests through positioning and strength rather than recovery pace. The fair question is how a defender built that way copes as the Premier League gets faster around him every year. Experience has carried him this far, and it may need to carry him further still.
