Kim Ji-Soo

Kim defends with genuine physical presence but his real value shows once his team has the ball, since he is comfortable playing out from the back on either foot rather than clearing his lines under the first hint of pressure. His passing range covers short combinations through midfield and longer diagonals out to a full back, giving a build up more options than a purely physical centre back usually provides.

He arrived from South Korean football as one of the first defenders from his country to break into a Premier League squad, carrying real expectation with that milestone. Regular senior football away from Brentford has become an important part of his development, testing him in a physical European league before he steps back into England. Whether his ball playing instincts survive a return to the pace of the Premier League is the interesting question.
