Konstantinos Tzolakis, Built For The Biggest Nights

A Greek goalkeeper whose reputation was made in European knockout football rather than in comfortable domestic matches.

Tzolakis played a cup final for Olympiacos before he was old enough to drive and won it, then spent the following years becoming the goalkeeper Greek football rates above all others. He saved three penalties in a shootout away at Fenerbahçe, which is the sort of evening that follows a keeper around forever, and he was central to a European trophy shortly afterwards.

The interesting part is the change in job description. At Olympiacos he spent long spells with almost nothing to do, then had to produce something enormous once an hour. Here he will face shots constantly, and the skill that gets tested is concentration across ninety minutes rather than nerve in a single moment. Both matter, though they are genuinely different things to be good at.
