Hidemasa Morita, The Screen Before The Defence

A Japan international who protects his back four by standing in the right place rather than by chasing.

Morita won two league titles at Kawasaki Frontale, then built a long career at Sporting through the most demanding kind of football, where a holding midfielder is exposed instantly if his positioning is even slightly wrong. He reads where the pass is going and steps into it, which is why he looks unhurried while the game around him is not.

He is the most experienced footballer in this squad at the level it is now competing at, and that changes what he is for.
