Aidan Harris, The Goalkeeper Learning To Command

A loan spell away from academy football taught him to organise senior defenders with his voice rather than his hands.

Harris has spoken openly about becoming more vocal after time away on loan, learning that a goalkeeper has to organise the players in front of him rather than simply react to whatever gets through his defence. That communication is not a small detail for a young player. A back line that trusts its goalkeeper's instructions defends with far more confidence than one working things out entirely on its own without direction.

He also credits that loan spell with making him more mature away from football. He had to earn respect in a senior dressing room rather than being given it for free. The next step is doing the same at a far higher level, where the margin for a communication mistake shrinks considerably compared with what he has faced already.
