Dan Burn, The Defender Who Wins The Air

His height gives him an obvious advantage, but it is timing in the air that actually decides most aerial duels.

Burn wins headers through timing rather than simply standing taller than everyone else. He rises at the exact moment the ball arrives instead of jumping early and hoping his size alone carries him above a marker standing nearby. That control extends to his passing, since a left footed centre back who can also cover full back gives Newcastle a genuinely unusual angle of attack whenever he steps out from deep positions.

What critics focus on instead is his pace over longer distances, which is the obvious gap in a defender built the way he is.
