Souza, The Full Back Who Loves Going Forward

Souza flies forward whenever the chance appears, treating attacking as the part of the job he enjoys most.

Souza's game is built around forward momentum. He breaks from defence with the ball at his feet and looks to join an attack rather than staying cautiously in position once possession has been won. He carries the ball with his head up, which lets him pick out a pass rather than simply running into a dead end, and that composure at speed is unusual for someone so new to European football. His attacking output already looks like the standout part of his game, even while the more disciplined side of defending is clearly still developing.

The tension is well known about young, attack minded full backs specifically, since the space he leaves behind when he commits forward is exactly where an opponent will look to counter. Tottenham clearly see enough raw talent to accept that trade off while his positioning catches up with his instincts.
