Mohammed Kudus, The Forward Defenders Cannot Pin Down

Kudus beats a defender in the tightest of spaces, using a change of direction rather than raw pace.

Kudus operates in areas most wingers avoid, taking the ball in tight spaces near the touchline and using quick feet rather than a straight sprint to get past a full back. His close control lets him ride a challenge that would dispossess most attackers, absorbing contact and still keeping the ball under control. That comfort under pressure makes him equally dangerous cutting inside onto his stronger foot or driving to the byline for a low cross.

The tension is his decision making in the final moment. A player capable of beating a defender twice occasionally chooses to attempt it a third time rather than releasing a teammate in a better position. Fans enjoy the individual brilliance and just as often wish he trusted the pass a little sooner than he does.
