Rodrigo Bentancur, The Midfielder Who Reads It Early

Bentancur stops an attack developing in the first place rather than waiting to make the tackle once it is underway.

Bentancur's value shows up before the ball even arrives. His positioning cuts off a passing lane so effectively that the opposition often has to reset their attack from scratch. He rarely dives into a rash challenge, preferring to shepherd an opponent into a less dangerous area before winning the ball cleanly rather than gambling on a tackle. Once possession is his, he keeps things simple, recycling the ball to a more creative teammate rather than forcing a pass that is not really on.
