Rodrigo Muniz, The Striker Who Runs Hot

Fulham's Brazilian forward mixes old fashioned physical hold up play with scoring runs that come in waves.

Muniz is the kind of centre forward English defenders once faced every week and now rarely do, a genuine physical presence who wins the first contact and lays the ball off without needing to look. He drops towards the ball to drag midfielders forward, then turns the same defender by attacking the space that has just been vacated. Around the six yard box he is quick with his feet, which is the part people consistently underestimate.

The argument about him has always concerned consistency rather than quality. He goes through spells where every chance ends up in the net and then longer stretches where identical movement produces nothing, with no obvious tactical explanation for either. Watch how early he begins making runs, because when he is involved from the opening exchanges the goals usually follow.
