Alex Iwobi, The Man Who Fills Any Gap

Fulham use the Nigerian wherever the shape needs solving, and he escapes tight areas by carrying the ball.

Iwobi spent years being described as a player without a position, which was meant as criticism and has instead become his greatest asset at Fulham. He plays on either flank, behind the striker or as a central midfielder, meaning the coaching staff can change the team's shape at half time without changing the personnel at all. In tight areas he protects the ball with his body and his balance, relieving teammates who have run out of options.

The debate around him has always concerned end product rather than involvement. Nobody questions how hard he works or how often he escapes trouble, though supporters at his previous clubs spent years asking why so much good work ended with an ordinary final ball. That delivery has become far more reliable than it was earlier in his career.
