Ryan Alebiosu, The Full Back Built On Patience

An Arsenal academy graduate who needed loan spells and a move abroad before finding a regular home at right back.

Alebiosu spent years in and out of academy football at Arsenal before his game found somewhere settled to land away from West London. Loan spells in England and Scotland, followed by a permanent switch to Belgian football, left him with a defender's caution rather than a young player's impatience. He rarely gambles on interceptions he is unlikely to win, preferring to shepherd an attacker away from goal instead.

What makes him interesting now is the international dimension, given his path through three separate countries before he settled in Lancashire. He qualifies for Nigeria through his parents and has already featured for the Super Eagles, which is no small thing for a full back who spent years fighting for a regular Championship place. Whether that recognition changes his approach to club football, or simply sits alongside it, is worth watching over a full season.
