Luke Graham, The Centre Back Built On Loan

Successive loan spells in Scottish football shaped a young defender who now looks ready for a bigger stage.

Graham wins physical battles a young centre back is supposed to lose, using his size to dominate crosses and set pieces at both ends of the pitch. His left foot gives Stoke a passing option out of defence that a right footed partner cannot easily replicate, and his goal record suggests a real threat at attacking corners. That mix of physicality and end product is unusual in a player still learning the position at senior level.

The obvious question is whether a defender shaped by Scottish football's more direct style can adjust to a Championship built on quicker combinations through midfield. Positioning against clever forwards asks different questions than winning individual duels ever did. Watch how he copes when strikers drag him away from goal, because that space is where his inexperience will show first.
