Aaron Cresswell, The Full Back Who Still Delivers

Years at the top level taught him exactly where a cross must land, and that instinct has never left him.

Cresswell defends the width of the pitch through positioning rather than pace, stepping across a winger's run instead of chasing it once the ball has already gone past him. His real value shows up further forward, where his left foot finds a teammate's head with a consistency few full backs can match. That delivery, built across a long career against sharper opposition, is the clearest thing he still offers a struggling attack.

The tension is obvious for a defender arriving in the Championship having spent most of his career above it. Recovery pace fades before technique does, and quicker forwards will test whether positioning compensates for a yard he no longer has.
