Georginio Rutter, The Forward Who Won't Sit Still

Brighton's attacker drifts between the striker role and just behind it, daring defenders to decide who should track him.

Rutter rarely stays where a formation diagram would put him, dropping short to receive the ball between opposition lines before a centre back has decided whether to follow. That movement creates the exact kind of confusion defences hate, because stepping out leaves a gap behind and staying put lets him turn and run at goal instead. He scores from those turns as often as from a simple finish inside the box, arriving late rather than starting there.
