Evan Ferguson, The Instinctive Irish Finisher

The Irish striker arrives in the right place inside the box before most defenders have even noticed the danger.

Ferguson has a natural sense for where a loose ball or a low cross is heading before it gets there, which lets him attack the space rather than reacting once the danger has already developed. Inside the box his finishing looks uncomplicated in the best possible way, a clean strike rather than an attempt to overcomplicate a simple chance. That instinct is difficult to coach into a player who does not already have it.

The tension for any young striker with this kind of natural ability is finding consistent minutes to actually use it, especially in a squad with several forwards competing for the same central role. Instinct alone does not create chances if the service around him is not arriving regularly. How Brighton manage his opportunities against the other options ahead of him will determine how often that instinct gets seen.
