Yankuba Minteh, Pure Pace On The Right Wing

The Gambian winger looks for one on one duels down the flank rather than combinations through the middle.

Minteh wants isolation more than combination play, angling his runs so that a full back is left alone with him and nobody arrives to help. Once that happens his acceleration over a short distance usually settles the contest before the defender has adjusted his feet. He does not need a great deal of space either, threatening from areas that a slower winger would treat as a dead end rather than an opportunity to attack the byline directly.

The question worth asking is what happens against a team that simply refuses to let him get isolated, doubling up early and forcing him inside onto his weaker side. Wingers who thrive on one on one duels can go quiet for long stretches when that duel never actually arrives. How he adjusts his positioning against a well organised low block will say a great deal about his ceiling at this level.
