Brighton and Hove Albion

Diego Gómez

Gómez is a South American playmaker who sees a forward pass a beat before most midfielders around him, threading the ball between lines rather than settling for the safer option sideways. He carries himself with a composure that belies how recently he arrived in Europe.

Diego Gómez, The Midfielder Who Sees It Early

Brighton's Paraguayan midfielder looks to slide a forward pass through defensive lines before the safer option even appears.

Gómez arrived from South American football with a passing instinct built around finding the forward option first, scanning for a teammate between the lines before his first touch has even settled the ball. That habit fits neatly into a Brighton midfield that wants to move the ball vertically rather than pass it around territory for its own sake. He is comfortable receiving under pressure too, using a quick turn to escape a closing midfielder rather than needing space handed to him.

The question with any technically gifted midfielder new to English football is whether that same style survives contact with a more physical league, where the space to receive and turn shrinks considerably. Passing lanes that opened easily elsewhere can close a half second sooner here. Whether he adjusts his tempo to match that increased pressure, without losing the vision that makes him dangerous, is the thing worth watching.

Does a New Signing Change Anything on Your Match Bingo Card?

Deadline day comes and goes and your card stays exactly as it was. Match Bingo cards are built from things that happen in a match, goals and corners and fouls, rather than from the players who make them happen. No name on a teamsheet reaches a single square. Here's what a signing does change, and what it doesn't.

Is Match Bingo Safe? Licensing, Fair Play and Player Protection

Two things usually sit behind that question: whether the company is real and regulated, and whether the game itself can be got at by somebody sharper than you. Match Bingo is operated by RTSB Limited under Gambling Commission account 51467, which takes about a minute to check. The second answer is duller: there's nothing to press.

What Is Football Bingo?

A card holds fifteen things that can happen in a football match, and each square marks itself the moment its event happens in the fixture you've chosen. You buy before kick-off, then you go and watch the game. Complete a horizontal row of five before anybody else and you take the fixed prize for that tier.
