Sebastian Berhalter, The Midfielder Who Sets The Tempo

A deep lying passer who would rather dictate a match's pace than chase after it once it gets away.

Berhalter picks the ball up from the back four and looks to switch the play or thread a pass through the lines rather than simply keeping possession safe. That approach asks a lot of positional discipline from the players around him. His distribution is his clearest strength, finding runners with passes that arrive at the right pace instead of just the right direction.
