Kyle Joseph, The Forward Who Runs In Behind

A pacy forward whose game is built almost entirely around beating a defensive line for speed rather than for guile.

Joseph times his runs in behind to stay just onside, stretching a defensive line that would otherwise be free to push higher and squeeze the game. That creates space for team mates operating in front of him. His pace alone forces a centre back to respect the ball over the top even when it rarely actually comes his way.

What remains to be settled is his end product once he actually gets in behind, because pace only creates the opportunity and finishing is what turns it into a goal. Forwards who rely on speed can look devastating in short bursts yet fade from a game whenever the ball stops being played in behind.
