Justin Obikwu

Obikwu built his early reputation by scoring consistently at every level he passed through on loan. He moved between clubs in the lower divisions and found the net regularly enough that a permanent transfer eventually followed. That record earned him international recognition at senior level early in his career, a reward for a forward who kept performing away from the spotlight of a bigger club's first team. His path through the loan system gave him a toughness that forwards fast tracked into a first team rarely pick up.

The obvious tension is adjusting to a higher standard of defending than he faced regularly in the divisions below. Goals that came fairly easily against tired lower league defences are much harder to manufacture against organised Championship back lines. Whether his instincts in front of goal translate at this level is the honest question every promoted lower league scorer has to answer.
