Jakov Medić, The Centre Back Who Kept Climbing

A towering defender who worked his way through German football before Ajax came calling, he aims to settle in Norfolk.

Medić spent his most important developing years in Germany, working through the third tier before three seasons at St Pauli sharpened him into a defender clubs were willing to pay for. His considerable size alone forces strikers to think twice about a physical battle. That platform took him to Ajax, one of Europe's most storied academies, before a Bundesliga loan and his eventual move to Norwich on a lengthy deal.

The question with Medić is whether a career built on gradual steps through a string of unglamorous German towns can suddenly click at a club expecting him to start regularly. He has rarely settled anywhere for long, moving country or division almost every year since leaving Croatia. Whether Norwich becomes the place that finally breaks that pattern is the story worth following.
