Lucien Mahovo, The Winger Turned Full Back
Mahovo spent his early years at Sheffield United's academy as a winger before Notts County converted him into a left back, a switch that explains why he looks so comfortable carrying the ball forward rather than simply defending the width. He earned his stripes through non league loan spells that toughened him up considerably before Norwich brought him in, initially for their development squad. Within months he was pushing for a place among the senior professionals.
The question with a converted winger is always whether the defensive side of the job catches up with the attacking instincts, because full backs at this level are punished quickly for switching off.
