Beto, The Striker Who Never Stops Running

A forward who does the exhausting part of the job brilliantly and the decisive part less often.

Beto is a nightmare for a back four that likes to hold a high line, because he attacks the space behind it from the opening whistle and keeps attacking it long after the defenders have stopped enjoying the contest. He is quick in a straight line, strong enough to hold a defender off with one arm, and he chases the goalkeeper down with the enthusiasm of somebody who genuinely expects a mistake.

Finishing is where the argument lives, because a striker who creates that many situations for himself gets judged on what happens once he arrives. His first touch under pressure can betray him, and the chance disappears while he is still sorting his feet out. Everton get plenty from him even in matches where nothing goes in. Whether that is enough from a centre forward remains a perfectly fair question.
