Harrison Armstrong, Learning The Game In Public

An Everton academy midfielder whose education is happening in front of people rather than behind closed doors.

Armstrong joined Everton as a child and has been in the building ever since, which still counts for something at a club that has always liked a local midfielder. He made his Premier League debut away at Tottenham and then went out to Derby County and Preston North End, where the managers kept describing him in very similar terms. Both of them mentioned his willingness to do the defensive running that nobody watches.

The technical side shows in flashes, with clean passing and a good sense of when to swap positions with the man beside him. What he does not yet have is the physical resilience to handle senior football every single week, which is exactly why the loan moves have been so useful. Everton will eventually decide whether he grows into the first team or gets sold.
