Yéremy Pino, The Winger Who Sees The Pass

Pino would rather thread a through ball for a teammate's run than take the shot himself.

Pino cuts inside from the left onto his stronger foot, which lets him see the whole pitch rather than just the touchline he started on. From there he looks first for the ball played through the defensive line, timing the pass so a runner arrives onside and in space. He also closes down defenders relentlessly once possession is lost, covering ground a purely creative player usually leaves for someone else.

The tension around Pino is whether a player built to create ends up scoring enough himself to justify his place. His chance creation holds up against anyone in the division, yet the goals have arrived far less often than a winger with his ability might be expected to manage. Watch how often defenders start showing him onto his weaker foot, because that is the clearest sign they have worked him out.
