Adam Wharton, The Midfielder Who Reads The Tempo

Wharton dictates how quickly Palace play from deep in midfield, a level of control unusual so early in a career.

Wharton collects the ball from the back and immediately opens his body to see the whole pitch, letting him pick the pass that actually hurts the opposition rather than the safest one available. His positioning between the lines of an opposing press is unusually mature, always finding an angle where a teammate can find him under pressure. He rarely panics in tight spaces, using a simple touch to buy himself the moment he needs to look up.
