Jean-Philippe Mateta

Jean-Philippe Mateta makes himself the target for every cross and cutback, holding the ball up until support arrives or shooting first time before a defender can close him down. He converts half chances that a less clinical striker would take an extra touch to control.

Jean-Philippe Mateta, The Striker Who Shoots First Time

Mateta rarely takes the extra touch that gives a defence time to recover, hitting the ball as it arrives instead.

Mateta plays as the focal point of Palace's attack, holding off a centre back with his back to goal until a midfielder arrives to take the ball off him. His movement is built around becoming a crossing target, drifting into the space a wing back's delivery is heading towards. Once the ball reaches him inside the box he shoots early more often than not, cutting down the goalkeeper's time to set his feet.

The question that follows Mateta is whether that instinctive first time finishing survives a run of matches where the service dries up. He offers less in the way of dropping deep and linking play than some strikers, leaving him reliant on wing backs and midfielders finding him in dangerous areas. Watch how involved he looks in build up during a quiet spell. A striker built on movement can disappear from a game when the supply stops.

Clean sheets in the Premier League and Championship

Five Premier League keepers have three clean sheets from five games, but Konstantinos Tzolakis has made the most saves of the group. In the Championship, George Wickens has matched Lawrence Vigouroux's four clean sheets while facing far more shots.

Match Bingo Game Modes Explained

There are three game types on Match Bingo and they behave less alike than they sound. Live Games follow a real fixture as it's played. Bingoals swaps the fifteen events for fifteen teams and needs every one of them to score. Quick Games run every few minutes on football from last season, so there's nothing to wait for.

Does a New Signing Change Anything on Your Match Bingo Card?

Deadline day comes and goes and your card stays exactly as it was. Match Bingo cards are built from things that happen in a match, goals and corners and fouls, rather than from the players who make them happen. No name on a teamsheet reaches a single square. Here's what a signing does change, and what it doesn't.

Is Match Bingo Safe? Licensing, Fair Play and Player Protection

Two things usually sit behind that question: whether the company is real and regulated, and whether the game itself can be got at by somebody sharper than you. Match Bingo is operated by RTSB Limited under Gambling Commission account 51467, which takes about a minute to check. The second answer is duller: there's nothing to press.

What Is Football Bingo?

A card holds fifteen things that can happen in a football match, and each square marks itself the moment its event happens in the fixture you've chosen. You buy before kick-off, then you go and watch the game. Complete a horizontal row of five before anybody else and you take the fixed prize for that tier.

Jean-Philippe Mateta: The Focal Point

Palace’s powerful No.9, built to battle centre-backs and finish chances with force.

Mateta plays like a striker who enjoys the collision. He backs into defenders, holds the ball up under pressure, and gives Palace a way to keep attacks alive rather than losing the ball instantly. When crosses come in he attacks them with real aggression, making the six-yard box feel like his territory. That physical presence gives Palace an identity up front: direct, forceful, uncompromising.

He’s also become smarter in his movement. He times runs across the near post, drifts into channels to create space for Eze and Sarr, and finishes with calm when chances arrive. Palace don’t just need him to score, they need him to be the centre of their structure, and Mateta plays that role with real conviction.
