Lars-Jørgen Salvesen, Who Took The Long Road Here

A serious knee injury threatened his big move to England almost as soon as it began, yet he kept scoring anyway.

Salvesen built his career the unglamorous way, moving between Norwegian clubs for well over a decade and scoring goals steadily before an English club finally took a chance on him. That path gives him a maturity in front of goal that younger forwards rarely have. He makes the unselfish run as readily as the selfish one, and a difficult debut season did not shake his confidence completely.

A serious knee injury interrupted his first year in England almost immediately, forcing a long recovery before he could properly show what attracted Derby to sign him in the first place. Watching him now is really about fitness. Can a forward who needed months to rebuild still produce the same reliable numbers he managed for years across Norwegian football, once his body trusts itself again.
