Jay-Morgan scores goals with a consistency that stood out long before he turned professional, racking up prolific totals for both Southampton and Chelsea at youth level and following that with goals for England at under seventeen. His movement inside the box looks less like a taught pattern and more like genuine instinct. He arrives in the right space just as the ball does rather than a half second too late.

Loan spells in the lower leagues have since asked him to convert that instinct against senior defenders who are considerably harder to fool than an academy back four. The real test for any young striker with his reputation is whether goals against grown men arrive at anything like the rate they did as a schoolboy. Plenty of prolific academy forwards discover senior defending is a different sport entirely.
