Gianluigi Donnarumma, The Keeper Built for Big Nights

He fills the goal so completely that shots aimed for the corner often end up in his hands regardless.

Donnarumma's size lets him cover more of the goal than most goalkeepers without needing to commit early, so he can wait a fraction longer to read where a shot is actually going. His reflexes at close range are exceptional, turning away shots that appear to have beaten him before his hands even seem to move. He commands his box with real authority, claiming crosses a smaller goalkeeper would have to punch clear.

What still gets debated is his distribution under a high press, since a goalkeeper of his background was developed in a culture that historically valued shot stopping over playing out from the back. City ask more of a goalkeeper's feet than almost any other club in Europe. Watch how comfortable he looks receiving a pass under pressure with an opponent closing him down, since that shows how fully he has adapted to the system.
