Alejandro Garnacho, The Winger Who Runs At You

Villa's newest winger would always rather beat a defender in a straight foot race than pass around the problem.

Garnacho attacks a full back directly rather than looking for a simpler pass around him, backing his pace and close control to win the contest. That directness makes him genuinely dangerous in transition, when defenders are still turning to face their own goal. A yard of space is all he needs to get beyond them.

Once he is in the box, he is comfortable shooting from angles that would make a more conservative winger look for a pass instead. The question that has followed him is decision making, because a player this eager to take a man on will sometimes choose the wrong moment. Watch how often his final ball finds a teammate, because that is what separates a dribbler from a genuinely productive winger over a long run of matches.
