Aaron Wan-Bissaka, The Winger Stopper

Very few full backs in the country defend one against one this cleanly, though his passing and crossing remain weak.

Wan-Bissaka defends with a precision few full backs can match, using his long legs and perfect timing to strip the ball from a winger without committing to a rash lunge. His positioning does most of the work before the tackle arrives, cutting the angle a winger wants to run into so the challenge looks almost routine. He also recovers at genuine pace, tracking back to cover a counter attack rather than getting caught upfield.

Going forward is where the questions remain, because his passing and crossing have never matched his defending, and he still tends to pick the safe short ball over the option that might create something. That imbalance matters more in a system that asks its full backs to help heavily in attack. Watch whether his end product improves at all, or whether West Ham simply accept the trade off and use him as a defensive specialist.
