Ryan Barnett, The Winger Non League Made

He came through Solihull Moors rather than a traditional academy pathway, and Wrexham's promotions have carried him up since.

Barnett left Shrewsbury Town's academy without a professional deal and rebuilt his career at Solihull Moors in non league football before Wrexham brought him back into the Football League system. He has stayed through every promotion since. He also reached a century of appearances for the club and won a place in the League One team of the year alongside a teammate from the same academy graduate class.

His goal of the season strike, a long range volley against Forest Green Rovers, captures what he offers best. He is a wide player willing to shoot from distance rather than always looking for the extra pass. The question for a winger who found his way back through non league football is whether that same directness holds up against Championship full backs who defend crosses and cut backs far more aggressively than League One ever asked of him.
