Josh Windass, The Midfielder For Big Days

He became Sheffield Wednesday's leading scorer of the century and produced the goal that sent them up a division.

Windass built his reputation on delivering when matches mattered most, none bigger than the extra time winner against Barnsley that completed Sheffield Wednesday's route back into the Championship through the play offs. He eventually became the club's top scorer of the twenty first century. That is a remarkable tally for a player who spends as much time drifting into forward positions as he does holding down a central midfield role.

Recurring hamstring problems have shadowed that career throughout, the natural cost of a player whose game depends on quick bursts and sudden changes of direction rather than measured positioning. Wrexham gain a proven big match performer though. The fair question is whether his body allows him to be that player often enough across a demanding Championship season rather than just in the moments everyone remembers.
