Patrick Roberts, The Wonderkid Still Delivering

Roberts was once one of England's most highly rated teenage wingers and excelled on loan at Celtic.

Roberts still plays with the confident close control that made him one of English football's most talked about teenage prospects, happy to take a defender on rather than look for the simple pass. That ability was never in doubt, it showed clearly during a loan spell at Celtic where he helped the club to an unbeaten domestic season. Manchester City rated his potential highly enough as a teenager to sign him from Fulham, proof of how highly the game once rated him.

The years since have been about proving early promise translates outside one perfect loan spell, after a difficult season in Spain and several stops that never quite stuck. Wingers with his gifts often get labelled unfulfilled long before their careers finish, which is not always a fair judgement to make. Helping Sunderland reach the Premier League through the playoffs suggested the end product is still there.
